Mountain Athletic Club 15-under girls finished fifth in their Provincial Championship Division held in Waterloo recently.
Ranked 13th heading into the tournament, MAC finished first in their pool defeating the 20th seed Act Elites, 25 -19, 25 – 21. MAC’s Jenn Vegh of Hamilton led with spike kills and Mount Hope’s Chelsea Mori led with service aces.
Against the 29th seed Waterloo Tigers Red, MAC won 25-22, 25-21 with Maddy Szlafarski of Burlington putting the team ahead with serving aces. Kelsey Kovar of Stoney Creek led in attacks.
Against the fourth seed Brant Tornadoes, MAC pulled ahead with a convincing 25-19, 16 – 25, 15 – 12 win. Hamilton’s Victoria Ho set a match digs record while Kate Miller of Hamilton led in attacks as did and Kelsey Kovar of Stoney Creek in blocking.
Finishing second in the power pool, MAC lost to the Etobicoke Titans in the quarter finals. Szlarfarski of Burlington led in assists.
MAC’ s Alex Rocca of Ancaster was recognized for her outstanding playing efforts and leadership with the Ontario Volleyball Association Award of Excellence.
The MAC 15U girls are coached by Ancaster’s Nicole Trombetta, Meghan Boyle and Geoff Reiner.
