Mountain volleyball club settles for fifth

The Mountain Athletic Club volleyball girls placed fifth in Division 1 Tier 2 of the 16-under Ontario Championships held at RIM Park in Waterloo last weekend (May 25-26).

On day 1 of pool play, MAC finished fourth in their pool losing to the Ottawa Maverick Ambush, 10-25, 14-25, the Ottawa Maverick Outlaws, 19-25, 16-25, and the Aurora Storm Thunder, 12-25, 18-25, placing them in Tier 2.

On day 2 of re-pool play, MAC finished third in their pool losing to the South County Bandits, 15-25, 21-25, the Oakville Thunder 15U, 12-25, 18-25, and moving on to defeat the Niagara Rapids Black, 25-12, 23-25, 15-10.

In the pre-quarters, MAC defeated London Forest City Blue, 23-25, 25-18, 18-16,. After being down 8-1 in the third and deciding set, the MAC 16U girl’s team fought back to win the third set and advanced to the quarter finals.

In the quarters, MAC fell to the Barrie Elites, 17-25, 21-25, for a final placement of fifth.

The Ontario Volleyball Association Award of Excellence recipient was Brittany Davies of Ancaster.

The MAC 16U Girls team is coached by Chiara Salvatore of Hamilton and Jeff Hinchliffe of Binbrook. MAC 16U Girls team athletes include: Michelle Baker, Ancaster; Antoinette Clazzer, Stoney Creek; Davies; Jade DeCoste, Hamilton; Madison Gunn, Dundas; Cassandra Kovacic, Hamilton; Catherine McIntyre, Burlington; Hillary Molnar, Burlington; Serena Smith, Caledonia; Natasha Valconi, Stoney Creek.
