Representing Ontario at the eight team Eastern Canadian Open 14U Championships, Mountain Athletic Club (MAC) Volleyball 14U Boys clinched the Gold medal in Moncton, New Brunswick on the weekend.
Placing first in their pool, MAC defeated Carrefour de l’Acadie (Dieppe, NB) 25-14 and 27-25 with Hamilton Mountain resident Marcus Wu serving for 8 points in row; the Reds Albert St. Eagles (Fredricton, NB) 25-12 and 25-11 with Campbellville’s Austin McIntyre leading with 8 serves in a row and the West Prince Islanders (PEI) 25-13 and 25-13 with Oakville’s Marco Folino serving 5 points in a row.
On day 2, MAC continued their undefeated streak by defeating the Extreme (Richibucto, NB) 2 5-17 and 25-4 with Dunnville’s Calvin Bond served 19 points in a row; the Carrefour de l’Acadie (Dieppe, NB) 25-10 and 25-14 and the Celtique (Montreal, Que) 25-22 and 25-15. Milton’s Br endan Kewin had 5 kills, 4 blocks and served for 5 points with Hamilton Mountain resident Marcus Wu serving 3 aces.
In the quarter finals, M AC defeated the West Prince Islanders 25-13 and 25-15. Marcus Wu served 5 aces in the first set; Hamilton’s Brandon Gomes served 5 points in a row and Dunnville’s Calvin Bond served 8 points in a row in the second set.
In the semifianls, MAC defeated Extreme (Richibucto, NB) 25-13 and 25-11. Milton’s Brendan Kewin served 10 points in a row and Ancaster’s Michael Susi served 9 points in a row in the second set. Hamilton Mountain resident Marcus Wu led with 7 blocks.
In the Gold medal match, MAC won in three sets against Carrefour de l’Acadie of Dieppe, NB 25-16, 20-25 and 15-6.
