Josh McCurdy and Lee Delfino each went 2-for-5 to lead the Brantford Red Sox to a 4-2 win over the Hamilton Thunderbirds in an Intercounty Baseball League Friday night (May 19) at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
Kyle Kotchie (1-0) was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Jake Eliopoulos. Kotchie went two innings giving up one hit while walking two and striking out three after Eliopoulos pitched the first four innings, allowing only two hits and had eight strikeouts and only one walk for the visiting Red Sox.. John Ogiltree came on in relief in the seventh, pitching three innings, allowing one run on two hits to earn the save.
Hamilton reliever Aaron Prodeus took the loss in relief of starter Kyle Pegg. Prodeus gave up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Pegg went four innings allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while also striking out three. Steve Black pitched three innings to finish up for Hamilton.
Tim Hebner had a double for Hamilton at the plate. John Saporsantos scored the Thunderbirds opening run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch. He walked twice, was hit by a pitch, and stole a base.
Next action for Hamilton (0-3) is Sunday against the London Majors (1-0) in Labatt Memorial Park. Game time is 1 p.m.
