Paul Spoljaric and three relievers combined on a five-hit shutout to give the first place Barrie Baycats a 7-0 win over the last place Hamilton Thunderbirds in Intercounty Baseball League action.
Spoljaric went five innings, allowing three hits with six strikeouts, before Jordan Hill, Doug Dimma and Kyle Payne all tossed a scoreless inning of relief in the Monday contest in Barrie.
In total, Barrie’s pitchers had 12 strikeouts and no walks, allowing just five singles. Hamilton starter Doug Chrysler was the loser, allowing seven runs – three earned – on 11 hits over six innings with four strikeouts and one walk.
Jordan Lundberg hit a solo homer and drove in two runs to pace the Baycats, who scored four first-inning runs and grabbed a 6-0 lead after two innings and coasted from there.
Ryan Spataro and Donovan Latour both had a pair of hits for Barrie, now 18-3 on the season with a four-game lead. The T-Birds slipped to 5-22.
