After success at the Babe Ruth level, Battlefield Baseball (East Hamilton / Stoney Creek) Trailblazers finished runner up at last week’s Western New York-Southern Ontario District 1 Cal Ripken Baseball Major 60’/46′ division to add its first Cal Ripken trophy to the trophy case.

Battlefield met perennial powerhouse Lou Gehrig League (East Amherst) in the final and bowed out, 11-0. Although finishing second after a weekend of baseball, the team represented itself and its community very well in the final game.

Brandon Greenaway pitched a complete game giving up only one walk while the defence behind him made only one error. Lou Gehrig League put on a hitting clinic, banging out 15 hits to Battlefield’s one. Deen Pawlik also pitched very well over the weekend. Jennifer Kircos, David Richards, Nicholas Barlow and Tyler Nie and all the rest of the squad played well.

Battlefield Major Trailblazers return to tournament action July 24-26 at Lewiston, N.Y. for the Lancers Classic followed by the Jonathon Hales Memorial July 31-Aug 2 hosted by North Tonawanda Babe Ruth League.

Farhan Munshi receives his runner up trophy from Battlefield League President Robert Barlow and District Commissioner Dave Franknechtsr while Nicholas Barlow and Jennifer Kircos await their turn.
