Hurricanes duo get football Player of the Week honours


hurricnesHamilton Hurricanes made their presence felt in the Ontario Football Conference’s players of the week selections. Two of the three honours fell to ’Canes with receiver Travis Steeves taking the Offensive Player of the Week and his teammate, linebacker Aram Eisho, getting defensive honours.

Steeves captured his first award of the 2009 season as the Hurricanes edged the Windsor AKO Fratmen 22-20. The second year receiver out of Delta Secondary led the offense with nine catches for 78 yards. Two of those receptions by the 6-1, 205-pounder went for touchdowns.

For Eisho, it was his second award of the 2009 season. The second year linebacker out of St Jean de Brebeuf led all OFC defenders with 26 defensive points. The 6-1, 190-pounder recorded six solo tackles, two assisted tackles, three quarterback sacks, a batted ball and twp forced fumbles in the win over Windsor.

The Outstanding Special Teams Player of the Week is kicker Scott Leblanc of the St. Leonard Cougars.

LeBlanc captured his honour as the Cougars defeated the Burlington Braves 25-13. The rookie out of Rimouski Cegep scored seven points as he converted all three St. Leonard touchdowns, booted a 40 yard field goal and collected a single on another missed field goal attempt.

The 5-6, 170-pounder punted seven times for 251 yards, his longest sailing 42 yards. His five kick offs travelled 233 yards and the longest was 53 yards.
