Home pitch not friendly to soccer Mountaineers

mountaineersThe Humber Hawks spoiled Mohawk’s home soccer openers, winning both the men’s and women’s Ontario Colleges Athletic Association games Friday (Sept. 18). Humber scored a 5-3 victory in the men’s contest at Mohawk Sports Park.

The Hawks took command with a 4-1 half time lead.

Sirwan Irandost scored for Mohawk in the first half on a free kick. Hassan Hamed was good on a penalty kick in the second half. Yousef Mohammad got a late consolation marker for Mohawk.
The Mountaineers now have a draw and loss in league play.

The women lost 5-1 to Humber. The Mountaineers trailed 3-0 at the half. Kira Wilkinson scored a gorgeous goal for Mohawk, heading home Andrea Urquhart’s corner kick. Mohawk is now 1-1 on the season.

The next action for both teams is Sunday (Sept. 20) at 2 p.m. as they face the Niagara Knights at the Welland Soccer Club.
