The Redeemer Royals came to Mohawk’s Fennell Gym and returned to Ancaster with a 3-1 win in a men’s pre-season Ontario Colleges Athletic Association volleyball match on Friday (Sept. 18). The scores were 25-20, 25-20, 10-25, 25-23 for the Royals.
The first set was a see-saw affair until Redeemer pulled away at the end. They matched their first game score in the second set and were in position for a possible sweep. But Mohawk came out hard for the third game, grabbing a 7-0 lead before cruising home. However, Redeemer put the match away in the fourth game.
Last year’s first team all-star Brad Douwes led the Royals with 11 kills, two stuff blocks and five aces. The Mountaineers were led by veteran Ian Cameron, who tallied 11 kills, four blocks and one ace.
