On Sunday (Sept. 27) the Hamilton Wentworth Minor Football Association is hosting Hamilton Panther Day. All five Panther rep teams will be in action representing Hamilton in South-western Ontario Football Association of Leagues play.

The Grey Cup will be on display throughout the day courtesy of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. Day-long action gets underway at 11 a.m. with the final game set for a 5.30 p.m. kickoff.

Starting the program will be the Myte Panthers putting their 3-2 record against the Kitchener-Waterloo Twin Cities Gold and their 1-2 mark. At noon, the Atom White Panthers (3-2) go against Brantford 2 (2-1-1).

The 1 p.m. tilt will pair the Pee Wee White Panthers (3-2) with the Twin Cities Purple (2-3). At 3 p.m., the Pee Wee Red Panthers will go for their first win of the season after five setbacks. Halton Hills will also be after their first ‘W’ after starting the 2009 season with four defeats.

Closing out the day of football will be the Atom Red Panthers (1-3). Their opposition will be Brampton (3-1) at 5 p.m.

The HWMFA is celebrating its 27th year of providing youth in Hamilton with a premier football program. Panther teams represent Hamilton in two leagues – the Ontario Football Conference Varsity League (OFC), for boys aged 13 to 17 and who compete provincially; and the South-western Ontario Football Association of Leagues for boy and girls aged 7-14.

The HWMFA also offers a Spring House League for boys and girls aged 5-14.

SOFAL is comprised of teams in South Western Ontario including the Branford Bison, Brampton Bulldogs, Kitchener/Waterloo Twin Cities Warhawks, Cambridge Wolverines, Halton Cowboys, Halton Hills Wildcats, Hamilton Panthers, Guelph Bears and Mississauga Warriors. SOFAL offers both rep competitive and house league programs for boys and girls aged 7-14.

Programs begin in July and conclude this year with championship games on Saturday, Nov. 7.
