Mountaineers erupt in show of offensive power

Mohawk’s two soccer teams kept their Ontario Colleges Athletic Association playoff hopes alive on Saturday (Oct. 3), defeating the Lambton Lions at Mohawk Sports Park.

The men scored a 3-1 decision. Hassan Hamed scored his ninth goal of the season. Matthew Wiggins and Evin Shemoun also scored for the Mountaineers who improved to 4-2-3 for 15 points, three more than the Sheridan Bruins who were surprised by the Conestoga Condors 2-0on Saturday.

Sheridan has a game in hand on Mohawk and the Mountaineers have three games remaining.

In the women’s game, Mohawk, which scored only five goals in its first eight games, exploded for an 8-1 romp over Lambton.

Amanda Pilon had two goals for the Mountaineers with singles coming from Stephanie Schipper, Kelsey Forbes, Zalona Caruso, Meghan Mantione, Andrea Urquhart, and Kira Wilkinson.

Mohawk’s second win in as many days gives them a 3-6-0 record with three games to play.
