The Mohawk women’s volleyball team won the silver medal at the Sheridan Invitational Volleyball Tournament over the weekend. The Mountaineers bowed 18-25, 23-25 to Humber in the gold medal match.
Head coach Sean Pellow said his team played well all day on Saturday (Oct. 17).
“We improved greatly our team cohesion, serve receive, defensive discipline and attack variation,” said Pellow. “Unfortunately, we came out flat in the gold medal match against Humber and although we attempted to fight back in and controlled a good portion of the match we came up a little short in the final.”
On the weekend Mohawk was undefeated in pool play, defeating Niagara, 25-18, 25-22; Fleming, 25-17, 25-13; and La Cite, 25-12, 25-16.
In the playoffs Mohawk eliminated Redeemer, 25-14, 25-7; Niagara, 25-13, 25-17; and Trent, 25-11, 25-18. The bronze medal went to Trent.
The Mountaineers open Ontario Colleges Athletic Association regular season play on Thursday (Oct. 22) at Sheridan.
