Brannagan back in OUA spotlight

Followers of Ontario University Athletics could be excused if they think the league’s offensive football player of the week award is named after Dan Brannagan.

The Burlington native picked up his fourth award this season after another strong-armed performance on the weekend. Brannagan outdueled Michael Faulds and the No. 5 Western Mustangs on Oct. 17 as his No. 4 Queen’s Gaels earned a thrilling 27-26 victory.

The accounting major was 35-of-53 passing for 436 yards and two touchdowns while engineering the game-winning drive in the final minute. Brannagan connected with Blaise Morrison on a 30-yard catch-and-run touchdown with 13 seconds left to secure the win. The fifth-year pivot has passed for 2,290 yards this season and is now just 31 yards from breaking the all-time Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) record of 10,455.

Brannagan’s teammate, Jimmy Allin (Belleville), was named the defensive player of the week, and the special teams player is kick returner Dillon Heap of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.
