Mountaineers score double win on OCAA volleyball openers

It was a successful opening night of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association season for Mohawk’s volleyball teams with a pair of wins over Sheridan College in Oakville Thursday (Oct. 22).
The men’s team had to claw its way back against the host Bruins for a 3-2 victory. The Mountaineers dropped the first two sets, 23-25, 22-25, but then rallied big time, taking the last three sets 25-11, 25-19 and 15-9 in the decisive fifth game.

Things were not so stressful for the women’s side. The Mountaineers came out in fine form, blitzing Sheridan 25-7 in the first set, then taking the next two, 25-18, 25-17 to complete a 3-0 sweep.

The Mohawk men’s volleyball team is off to Durham College in Oshawa this weekend for the Adidas Cup Tournament.
The Mountaineers will meet Loyalist, then hit against the Seneca Sting, and the Humber Hawks. Playing in the other pool are Sheridan, Niagara, Kings University and host Durham.

The women get back into action Saturday, Oct. 31 when they meet the Sault Cougars in the Mohawk home opener at 6 p.m. in the Fennell Gym.
