Samuel assumes presidency of junior football Hurricanes

Mike Samuel is the new president of the Hamilton Hurricanes football club.

Samuel moves into the position as Brian Copeland moves out after completing his two-year tenure that saw the Hurricanes return to the Ontario Junior Football Conference after an absence of 14 years. Club chairman Joe Fabiani notes that Copeland and Samuel are both Hurricane alumni, and each was instrumental in the team’s re-birth after more the 30 years of successful operation.

During his term as president, Copeland oversaw the football operations including the recruitment of players to restart the team, creating links with local minor football organizations, selection of a head coach and he was a member of the board of directors which managed the overall club business.

The Hurricanes return was highlighted by playoff appearances the past two seasons. In addition, provincial and national honours were awarded to the Hurricanes, including one to Brian who was recognized as national Executive of the Year for the Canadian Junior Football League.

Samuel had been the club’s treasurer.
