Mohawk coach encouraged by tournament play

The Mohawk Mountaineers bowed 55-48 to the Algoma University Thunderbirds of Sault Ste. Marie in the gold medal game of the Lady Vikings women’s basketball tournament at St. Lawrence College in Kingston on Sunday (Jan. 10).

Algoma was a perfect 3-0 in the event, while the Mountaineers wound up 2-1. Alisha Mills led Mohawk with 14 points, while tourney All-Star Morgan Taylor had 10 points and Tracy Lehane recorded eight.

“We had a fantastic tourney,” said Mountaineers’ coach Kelly Dunham. “We shot 41 percent for the championship game. Our play this weekend is a great way to kickoff the second half of our (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association) season.”
