Mohawk women improve OCAA volleyball record

Mohawk volleyball teams divided an Ontario Colleges Athletic Association twin bill against the Niagara Knights in Welland on Friday night (Feb. 12).

The women’s team upped its record to 13-5 with a 3-2 victory. Jenna Gignac led the Mountaineers with eight kills, three service aces and one stuff block for 12 offensive points. Lauren Aquilina and Rachel VanHartingsveldt had 10 points each. Niagara’s record slipped to 11-8.

The Mohawk men were swept 3-0 by Niagara. Ian Cameron had 11 kills, two aces and a block for the Mountaineers who are now 9-5, while Niagara is 7-8.

Mohawk gets right back into action on Saturday (Feb. 13) at Redeemer. The women’s game will be at 6 p.m. and the men’s at 8 p.m.
