The Mohawk women won the bronze medal at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Women’s Volleyball Championship in Sudbury.
The Mountaineers won a tough 3-2 battle with the Fanshawe Falcons of London, 25-23, 25-19 23-25, 23-25, 15-11. After winning the first two sets and then losing the second two sets, Mohawk found it in themselves to pull through and come out victorious.
Leading the way for Mohawk was Jenn Knowles who had 19 kills and 2 serving aces for a total of 21 points.
Earlier on Saturday (Feb. 27), Mohawk swept Durham Lords 25-23, 25-22, 25-21. Not only were all three sets competitive, the Mountaineers needed to be highly motivated to stave off the Lords. Just when you thought they were down and out, Mohawk players fired each other up to get the job done.
CCAA All-Canadian Knowles was at it again, with a 15-point performance including 10 kills, two service aces and three stuff blocks. Jenna Gignac had nine kills, one ace and one block,
Allison Feliciano and Leah Waxman each recorded six kills and two blocks. Setter Kellie Crnic was named Mohawk’s player of the game.
