Don’t miss a beat – Register for Heart and Stroke Hockey Tournament


heartstrokeThe Third Annual Heart and Stroke Foundation’s Angelo Tinebra Memorial Hockey for Heart needs teams for its Saturday, May 1 event at the Mohawk 4 Ice Centre.

Alfonso Tinebra was only 5-years-old when he experienced the tragic loss of his father, Angelo, from a heart attack. At only age 43, Angelo was leaving behind a 38-year-old widow and three children. Alfonso started to cope with the loss of his father through his love for hockey, and became inspired to get involved with the Heart and Stroke Foundation. He is an anti-tobacco advocate to raise awareness and prevent others from experience a similar loss.

The Angelo Tinebra Memorial Hockey for Heart Tournament has been named in honour of Alfonso’s father, with proceeds going directly towards supporting life-saving heart disease and stroke research, advocacy initiatives, and to purchase, place and provide training for lifesaving Automated External Defibrillators in the Hamilton community.

“With Alfonso’s dedication and help, the Heart and Stroke Foundation has been able to continue to run the Hockey for Heart program here in Hamilton, and this year it’s going to be big,” says Jacklynn Tregunno, Program Coordinator of the Hockey for Heart program. “It is going to be fantastic. We have Wendel Clark coming to play in the ProStar game.”

The ProStar contest concludes the tournament when all teams have finished their games. The top 15 fundraisers of the tournament are teamed up against the ProStar team, made up of NHL Almuni and local celebrities.

Individuals on teams are encouraged to fundraise and are rewarded with prizes. Registration is available online where Hot Shot Ballots are available. A Hot Shot Ballot is a ticket for a chance to Shoot to Win $10,000! For every $50 that one gains in fundraising, the Heart and Stroke Foundation will automatically enter 1 Hot Shot Ballot for that player. In addition to the chance to win $10,000 and other prizes, a wildcard spot on the roster for the ProStars’ game will be awarded.

Players of all skill level are welcome to participate in this tournament. Men’s, women’s and co-ed teams are welcome. Teams must have 12 to 15 people and all must be over 16 years of age.
