Three Marauders carry Mac colours into OUA women’s all-star game

An exciting 2009-10 season of women’s basketball will have a star-studded conclusion on Saturday (May 1) in the Ontario University Athletics All-Star Game at the Athletic Complex on the campus of Wilfrid Laurier University as part of the 2010 Ontario Basketball Association Ontario Cup.

OUA West player of the year Amanda Anderson (Chatham, Ont.) will wear the Western Mustangs uniform for the final time as she headlines the West squad. She led all players in the division with an 18.0 points per game average during the regular season. She will be joined by OUA and Canadian Interuniversity Sport rookie of the year Jessica Clemençon (St. Rambert, France) of the Windsor Lancers. Clemençon led all OUA rookies with 313 points and 146 rebounds, a season which culminated with another OUA championship and a CIS silver medal for the Lancers.

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks product Renata Adamczyk (Greensville), the West defender of the year, will also join forces with a team looking to avenge a 77-64 loss to the East in last year’s All-Star Game. The West will be coached by Lancers’ head coach Chantal Vallée.

Three Marauders – Taylor Chiarot, Jaklynn Nimec, and Nicole Rosenkranz, – will represent McMaster University.

OUA East player of the year, Hannah Sunley-Paisley (Toronto), of the Ottawa Gee-Gees, averaged a double-double during the regular season – 18.9 points and 10.8 rebounds – and will be a force in the middle for the East squad. Veteran guard Lacey O’Sullivan (Port Colborne) of Ryerson will be playing her final game as a Ram. She led her division in steals with 60 in 2009-10 and was named East defensive player of the year.

East rookie of the year Jessica Resch (Orleans, Ont.) of the Carleton Ravens will also take part, and will see a familiar person on the bench in the form of head coach Taffe Charles who will coach the East squad.

Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. Admission is free of charge.

The OUA All-Star Game is being played in conjunction with the Under 16 Girls OBA Provincial Championships.
