Ex-Burlington Braves take kicker Maver first

Former Burlington Braves kicker Rob Maver has caught the eyes of the Calgary Stampeders.

The Canadian Football League’s Stampeders made the Canadian Junior Football League’s All-Canadian punter the fifth pick in the first round of the CFL college draft on the weekend.

Maver played for the Ontario Football Conference Braves in 2005 before joining the University of Guelph Gryphons. The Brampton native was tops in Ontario University Athletics play with a 92.9 per cent field-goal percentage and was also tops in the conference with a 41.3-yard punt average.
