Panthers shut down Thunderbirds in Hamilton

Tyler Wilson pitched eight shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out 10 without a walk, to lead the Kitchener Panthers to a 2-0 win over the Hamilton Thunderbirds.

The senior Intercounty baseball League game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when Kitchener picked up its first run before adding another run in the seventh. Mike Winter had two hits and drove in a run, Matt Taube also had two hits and Luke Baker drove in Kitchener’s other run. Derek Sinko pitched the ninth for the Panthers to pick up the save.

David Hucsko went eight innings for Hamilton and took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts. Adam Cholewka doubled for the T-Birds, and finished 1-for-3 on the night.

Both teams committed two errors.

Hamilton is now 0-2 on the season.

In Brantford, the visiting London Majors spoiled the defending IBL champion Red Sox home opener with a 2-0 win.
