The Hamilton Wentworth Panthers play their Junior Varsity and Bantam Varsity home openers this weekend at MacRae Fields. MacRae Fields are located at 680 Highway #8 in Rockton.
The Juniors (0-1) will face the Sudbury Gladiators (0-1) on Saturday (June 5) with a kickoff at 4 p.m. With both teams coming off season opening losses, the game could prove crucial in the overall standings.
The Bantam Panthers (0-1) face the Sarnia Sturgeon (0-1) the next day at 1:30 p.m. Both team lost close games in week one – the Panthers losing a 7-6 heart breaker to Burlington in the last quarter. The Sturgeon were on the short end of a shoot out, falling to Twin Cities 51-45. This Bantam division game showdown should feature tough defence and high octane offense.
The Panthers Television Partner, Cable 14, will be taping both games for broadcasting later this month.
The Hamilton Wentworth Panthers were established in 1982 as a branch of Burlington Minor Football. Over the years the Panthers have established themselves as an independent community based organization. The Varsity teams play in the Ontario Football Conference and represent Hamilton in three divisions: Bantam (13-14), Junior (15-16), and Senior (17-19).
The Panthers are directly affiliated with the Canadian Junior Football League’s Hamilton Hurricanes and are members of the Ontario Football Alliance.
