Big rally isn’t enough to save Thunderbirds

The Thunderbirds scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 9-1 deficit as the London Majors earned a 9-7 win in the lone game of the Intercounty Baseball League on Monday night in Hamilton.

Mitch Delaney homered for the Majors, who improved to 7-6 with the win. Allan Cattyrse singled twice and doubled, scoring three times.

Ryan Cattyrse drove in two and scored once. Vince Burke went 3-for-5, scoring once with one RBI. Cleveland Brownlee and Chris Chambers both singled twice, with one and two runs respectively.

Colin Zwiebel doubled, scored, and drove in a run for the Thunderbirds, who dropped to a league worst 2-10. Graeme Carey and Jordan Windisch both singled and drove in a run. Chris Piano and Adam Durfee both singled and scored.

Zachary Breault picked up the win for the Majors, allowing five hits and one (earned) run with 12 strikeouts over eight innings of work.

Ryan Van Spronsen lasted five innings in the loss, giving up seven hits and three runs (one earned) with three strikeouts.

Five errors didn’t help the Hamilton cause.
