Hamilton Cardinals play perfect ball to take midget tourney

The Hamilton Cardinals Midget 18-under team traveled to Mississauga recently and returned home as champions.

The Cardinals went undefeated (6-0) to win the Mississauga North Minor Baseball Association Major Midget Tournament. There was no shortage of offense and defense as the Cards poured 39 runs across the plate while yielding only eight.

That excellent pitching, hitting and fielding landed the Cardinals in the championship game.

The Cardinals faced the Etobicoke Rangers 18U team in the final. Etobicoke took the lead in the top of the third, but Hamilton got the run back in the bottom of the third with a homerun from Kyle Leavers. The Cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the fifth and scored once more in the bottom of six to keep the lead.

The Cardinals are off to a great start with an 11 – 1 record so far this season, including a 5-1 mark in league play.

Home games for the Cardinals are on Thursdays, 7 p.m., at Bernie Arbour Stadium. Guelph will provide the opposition on June 17 at Bernie Arbour Stadium. Tonight (Tuesday) the Cards play in Brantford at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
