It was first place versus last place and when all was said and done there were no surprises in senior Intercounty Baseball League play on Father’s Day.
The host Hamilton Thunderbirds fell 7-1 to the league leading Barrie Baycats at Bernie Arbour Stadium. The loss left Hamilton with a 3-15 record while the Baycats improved to 16-4. En route to the win, Barrie pounded out 12 hits while Hamilton batters connected nine times.
Adam Garner was the winner for Barrie, going seven innings and allowing five hits and one earned run, with two strikeouts.
Ryan Vanspronsen took the loss for Hamilton, giving up seven hits and three earned runs with six strikeouts over six innings.
Hamilton was in the game until Barrie scored four runs in the seventh inning.
Next home game for the T-Birds is Friday (June 25) when the Ottawa Fats Cats visit Bernie Arbour for a 7.30 p.m. game.
