Dinner recognizes charter members to Hamilton’s sports shrine


hshofTickets for the inaugural Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner are now available.

Charter members of the new shrine will include 11 individuals and one team for the Sept. 28 gala affair. Inductees in the Athletes category will include: Jackie Callura (boxing); Harry Howell (hockey); Russ Jackson (football); Mel LaForme (rowing); Ray Lewis and Billy Sherring (track); and Joanne Malar (swimming).

Entering as a Builder is David Braley (football) while Bill Friday goes in as an Official (hockey). Jimmy Thompson is recognized as a coach (swimming) and Claude Saunders efforts in rowing drew recognition as an Athlete and Builder.

The 1967 version of the Tiger-Cats, who were Canadian Football League champions, earned a ticket to the hall.

Tickets at $100 each, or $1,000 for tables of 10, are available at Hutch’s on the Beach, 280 Van Wagner’s Beach Road; United Trophy, 99 Cannon St. East; The Tiger-Cats Store at Tigertown,1 Jarvis Street.

The dinner will be held at Carmen’s, 1520 Stone Church Road East. A one hour cocktail reception at 6 p.m. precedes the dinner.
