Warriors’ rally falls short in season kickoff


WarriorsThe Stoney Creek Jr. B Warriors dropped their Golden Horseshoe Conference season opener on the road in St. Catharines losing 5-3 on Friday night.

The Falcons started fast, out flying out shooting the Warriors, 17-9, and out scoring them 5-0 in the first period. Luke Karaim and Nick Hovanessian led the Falcons with scored two goals a piece.

Stoney Creek took control of the game over the final two frames, out gunning the Falcons, 35-19. The Warriors comeback fell short as they could muster only two goals from Dave Ruberto and a single from Brad Col.

The Warriors will host the Niagara Falls Canucks tonight (Saturday, Sept. 11) at Valley Park arena, game time is 7:30 p.m. The home opener will be televised on Cable 14.

Stoney Creek will round out the weekend on Sunday night when they hit the road again and travel to Welland to take on the Canadiens. Game time is 7 p.m.

In the 2008-09 season, the Warriors won the Golden Horseshoe Conference Championship and were Sutherland Cup finalists. Last season, Stoney Creek again won the Conference Championship and made an appearance at the Sutherland Cup.
