The Mohawk women’s soccer team evened its Ontario Colleges Athletic Association record at 1-1, with a 2-0 victory over the Oakville Sheridan Bruins on a blustery Mohawk Sports Park Tuesday (Sep. 21).
Ashley Hagen put the Mountaineers ahead with the only goal of the first half slotting the ball home from close range. In the second half Courtney Lipnicky’s corner kick saw the ball play tricks in the brisk wind and was misjudged by the Bruins’ goalkeeper. It went off her hands and into the goal.
“We did really, really well,” said Mohawk coach Renzo Castellani. “We carried on from the way we finished last week (a loss to Humber) and we had a lot of energy.”
Rookie goalkeeper Alyshia Smith picked up the shutout in her debut.
