The Mohawk men’s soccer team had to settle for a second straight draw, 1-1 with Sheridan, in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play.
After a scoreless first half, Jonathan Costa put the Bruins on the board first in the second half only to have Mohawk’s Ephraim Cirillo score on an unbelievable free kick from about 35 yards. Cirillo drilled the ball into the upper left hand corner.
With the wind playing a major role on the shot, Cirillo said the ball appeared to be moving every which way before settling in the back of the goal.
Mountaineer’s head coach Richard Bennett said his team should have done more in the first half. “We had chances, but after falling behind 1-0, we showed good character coming back. At least we know we can do it. And that was an awesome shot by Ephraim.”
The Mountaineers will look for their first win of the season, after the two draws, on Friday (Sept. 24) when they play St. Clair in Windsor.
