Gaels hand Mac women first rugby setback

Three members of the No. 8 Queen’s Gaels scored tries to squeeze out a one-point win, 15-14 over the No. 7 McMaster Marauders on Back 10 Field.

Allison Morris (Stoney Creek) and Hannah Braithwaite (Kingston, Ont.) both crossed the try line for the Maroon and Rebecca Delaney (Caledon) scored a convert in the Ontario University Athletics women’s rugby game.

Queens’ second leading scorer Karlye Wong (Ottawa) added a third try onto her 2010 totals while teammates Sarah Pathak (Toronto) and Jocelyn Poirier (Carp) also contributed to the win.

McMaster falls to 2-1 this season while Queen’s jumps to 3-0.

The Marauders will finish out remainder of their season on the road starting with a game against the Lions at York Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m.
