It was a day to forget for the Mohawk women’s fastball team on Saturday (Sep. 25) in the annual Can Am Classic at Durham College in Oshawa.
The Mountaineers suffered a pair of lopsided defeats, 14-0 to the Tribunes of Monroe Community College from Rochester, N.Y., and 14-3 to the Seneca Sting of North York.
Mohawk was missing three starters for the trip and in the nightcap basically played the bench to give them some action.
Today (Sunday) at noon, Mohawk will play for third place against the loser of the 10:00 a.m. game between Monroe and Seneca. The winner of the Tribunes-Sting game will advance to the championship game against the host Durham Lords at 2 p.m.
On Friday, the Mountaineers got off to a rough start to the Can Am Classic. In a game which counted in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association standings, the host Durham Lords whipped the Mountaineers 14-1. It was the fifth straight win for the Lords, including three in a row over Mohawk, now 2-3.
