Quarterback Mike Chase of the Hamilton Hurricanes is this week’s Offensive Player of the Week in the Ontario Football Conference.
Chase captured the Week 8 offensive award in the Hurricanes 18-17 loss to the St Leonard Cougars. The 6-1, 190-pounder connected with five different receivers on 19 of his 37 pass attempts for 305 yards. Two of those completions went for touchdowns. His longest pass and run was 68 yards.
The Defensive Player of the Week is Yann Jourdain, a defensive back with St Leonard.
Jourdain collects his second award of the season. The 5-11, 185-pounder was credited with 15 defensive points in four categories. He had four solo tackles, an assisted tackle, an interception as well as knocking down another pass to hold off the visiting ’Canes.
The London Beefeaters kicker Carmine Gentile is the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Gentile single handedly – but with his foot – led the Beefs to a 21-10 road victory over the Ottawa Sooners. The rookie out of London Catholic Central connected on all but one of his seven field goal attempts. His lone miss went for a 26 yard single for 19 of London’s 21 points. The six foot, 180-pounder punted seven times for 164 yards and his two kick offs travelled a total of 69 yards.
