A 1-1 draw at Niagara on Thursday (Oct. 7) ended the Mohawk men’s soccer team’s chance to finish first in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association West Region.
Michael Greco got the Mountaineer goal as the team improved to 4-0-3. However, with only one regular season game left, Mohawk can no longer catch the top team, Sheridan, which is 6-0-1. Still, the Mountaineers have a realistic shot to finish second. They are two points behind Humber (5-0-2). Mohawk plays its final regular season game at Mohawk Sports Park against Fanshawe on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 4:30 p.m.
Humber hosts Sheridan the same day.
In women’s play, Ashley Hagen scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season and Jaclyn Halliday notched her second as Mohawk topped Niagara, 3-1.
The Mountaineers, now 4-2-1, are tied with Conestoga for third place. The final regular season game for Mohawk will also be at Mohawk Sports Park next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against Fanshawe.
Conestoga plays at Redeemer the same day.
