Mountaineers let lead slip away

George Brown Huskies scored at the buzzer to defeat the Mohawk Mountaineers 82-79 in a pre-season Ontario Colleges Athletic Association men’s basketball game in Toronto on Friday (Oct. 8).

Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker said his team squandered a big lead in this one.

“We let a 16-point second half lead get away,” said Jonker. “It was a good early season lesson and we will continue to improve from here.”

Aminu Bello hooped 21 points, while Tyrone Berry had 15 points and nine rebounds. Jermaine De Costa also had 15 points and Nick Fadayel scored 12 and contributed 10 rebounds.

The Mountaineers’ next pre-season test comes at home Wednesday (Oct. 13) when they welcome the Georgian Grizzlies from Barrie. They’ll tip it off at 8:30 p.m. in the Fennell Gymnasium.
