Exhibition game gets cage bench into play

The Mohawk men’s basketball team jumped out to a 58-27 half time lead en route to a 109-63 victory over the Georgian Grizzlies of Barrie in pre-season play at the Fennell Gymnasium on Wednesday (Oct. 13).

Tanner Lane led the Mountaineers with 15 points. Tyrone Berry had 14 and Nick Fadayel contributed 13 in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association exhibition game.

Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker said his team is older than the Grizzlies and the experience showed. He was also pleased to get his bench considerable court time.

“We played 11 guys in the first 10 minutes of the game,” said Jonker. “We’re pretty deep. It’s hard to get them all playing time, but that’s a good problem to have.”
