Mohawk College was awarded the bronze medal at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Women’s Fastball Championship in Oshawa on Saturday after falling 9-3 to Windsor St. Clair Saints.
The win advanced the Saints to the gold medal showdown with host Durham Lords who claimed the championship with a 10-1 decision.
In the bronze medal game, Mohawk and St. Clair had quite a battle raging through five innings. The Saints broke on top 1-0 after one inning. They doubled their margin with a single run in the fourth frame. But in the top of the fifth, the Mountaineers scored three times for a 3-2 lead. However, the Saints replied with three themselves in the bottom of that inning. St. Clair put the game away scoring four times in the sixth.
Julia Gelfand, Melanie White and Sara Simmons drove in the Mohawk runs. Jessica Denstedt was charged with the defeat.
