Mohawk makes its pitch and goes to quarter finals

It was a good day on the pitch for Mohawk’s two soccer teams. They each advanced to the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association quarter finals in Ottawa this coming weekend and the Niagara Knights were the victims in each case.

Ashley Hagen, the high scoring product of Hamilton District Christian High School, was at it again. She scored both goals in a 2-1 Mountaineers’ victory at Mohawk Sports Park. The team now travels to Algonquin College in Ottawa on Saturday for a noon hour quarter final matchup with the Thunder.

Meanwhile, the men’s team needed overtime for a 6-4 decision over Niagara. The teams were tied 4-4 after 90 minutes and had to play two 15 minute overtime periods. Mohawk scored early in the first extra half and late in the second to seal the win. Adam Petrina led the Mountaineers with three goals. Adam Bond had two and Sirwan Irandost, one.

Mohawk is scheduled to play La Cite Coyotes in Ottawa on Sunday, but is attempting to change that to Saturday when the women’s team plays in the nation’s capital.
