Mohawk bounce back at Viking Invitational

After dropping their opening game Friday, Mohawk bounced back for a 94-81 victory over Niagara on day two of the 16th Annual Viking Men’s Basketball Tournament at St. Lawrence College in Kingston Saturday (Oct. 23). With the victory, the Mountaineers earned a spot in the Consolation Final.

The teams were even 13-13 five minutes into the game, but then Niagara got on a couple of good runs to lead 39-28 at the half.

However the Mountaineers returned hungry following the break and a 13-3 run left them tied 49-all with 12:40 remaining in the contest. Mohawk then took a 57-51 lead after Jermaine De Costa hit a three-pointer, followed by a driving layup. That forced the Knights to call a time out, but the Mountaineers then went into overdrive and stretched their lead to 88-63 with just five minutes remaining,. They finished with a 9-3 run and the win.

Aminu Bello scored 23 points and had 9 rebounds while Nick Fadayel had 18 points and 10 boards to lead the Mountaineers, who shot 43.2 percent for the game. They were 59.1 percent in the second half.
