The Humber men dominated the previously unbeaten Mohawk Mountaineers on Sunday, by a score of 25-13 at Fletcher’s Field in Markham. Mohawk had beat the Hawks twice in regular season; both were close matches, including an 8-7 Hawks heartbreaker to close out the regular season.

The win marks another OCAA championship rugby season for the Hawks.

An all around team effort culminated in an OCAA title for the Hawks. The Hawks got tries from five different players to lead them to victory. Ed Donnelly scored early and the Phil Boone added another as the Hawks were up 10-8 at the half.

Early in the second half Humber went down a man and lost a player to the sin bin. This did not stop the momentum as the Hawks scored three consecutive tries with a man short. Colin Elvis scored right after then penalty then Nathan Le and Jordan Reid each quickly scored while the Mountaineers were still up a man.

Mohawk scored late but it was not enough as Humber took the game 25-13.

Humber’s Phil Boone was named the “Man of the Match.”
