The following student-athletes have been named the Encrypt Stick Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Nov. 28.
Receiving the female award is Kaitlyn McKenna of the basketball Niagara Knights.
The fifth-year forward from St. Catharines scored 26 points and added 11 rebounds for a double-double in leading the Knights to a 75-60 win over St. Clair (3-2) on Friday. All but two of her points came in the second half as Niagara (5-0) trailed 41-29 at half-time.
Prior to the game, McKenna was honoured for becoming Niagara’s all-time leading scorer. She now has 811 points in her illustrious college career.
The male award went to Warsama Elmi of the La Cite Coyotes.
The third-year guard from Ottawa scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Coyotes to a 76-74 upset win over Durham in men’s basketball on Friday. Durham (6-3) was on a six-game win streak entering the game. Elmi is the top scorer on La Cite (3-7) averaging 17.4 points in eight games.
He is a threat on both sides of the three-point arc, scoring 20 three-pointers this season.
