Mohawk’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams came away from Niagara College in Welland with straight sets victories in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association action on Thursday (Dec. 2).
The women downed the Knights 25-20, 25-20, 25-23. Jennifer Knowles (Burlington) had six kills, two service aces and one stuff block. Jenna Gignac (Hamilton) had four kills, two aces and three blocks.
Mohawk, which has now completed first semester play, improved its record to 9-2 and is even in points atop the West Region with Humber (9-0) and Nipissing (9-1). The Hawks have two games left prior to the break, while the Lakers have one.
Niagara is 5-6.
The Mohawk men downed Niagara 25-19, 25-17, 25-8.
Mo Sulaiman (Hamilton) led the way with 13 kills and one ace for 14 offensive points. Kevin Teskey (King City), Cam Henschel (Hamilton) and Darren Govan (Guelph) had seven points apiece. Ryan dela Rosa (Kenora) contributed 14 digs.
Mohawk, which has now completed the first half of its season, is 5-4 and tied in points for third place in the West Region with Sheridan (5-3) and Nipissing (5-4). The three teams trail Fanshawe and Humber by four points. The Falcons and Hawks are each 7-1. Both have one more game before the break, as does Sheridan.
Niagara is 3-6.
