A tough start for Mohawk at the Ryerson Rams National Invitational men’s basketball tournament in Toronto Tuesday (Dec. 28) as the Mountaineers fell 101-60 to the University of Toronto.
Drazen Glisic and Justin Holmes scored 16 points each to lead the Varsity Blues. Aminu Bello had a game high 17 points for Mohawk, while Tyrone Berry added 12. The Mountaineers shot only 30.1 percent from the floor, compared to U of T’s 49.4 percent. The Blues also out-rebounded Mohawk 59-24.
The Mountaineers now go to the consolation round and will play the York Lions Wednesday at 1:00 pm.
The tourney runs until Thursday.
In other first round action, York bowed 97-71 to the Walsh University Cavaliers of North Canton Ohio, while the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds topped the Waterloo Warriors 81-74 and the host Ryerson Rams beat the Algoma Thunderbirds of Sault Ste. Marie, 66-50.
