Coach Sean Pellow says his team stepped up its game against a talented squad from Winnipeg to make it three straight sweeps on opening day play at the Adidas Cup Women’s Volleyball Tournament in Oshawa on Friday (Jan. 7).
The Mountaineers downed the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers 25-17, 25-12. Pellow said it was a true team effort, including the bench players, as they smothered the Blazers’ every effort to take control of the match.
It was a better Mohawk performance than in their match against St. Clair, even though they downed the Saints 25-16, 25-12.
Mohawk also won its opener, 25-18, 28-26 over the host Durham Lords.
Saturday the Mountaineers play Georgian Grizzlies of Barrie and the Canadore Panthers of North Bay.
The playoff rounds will feature best-of-five sets.
