Matteke Hutzler’s (Napanee) offensive and defensive play led the Western Mustang women’s basketball team to an 89-39 victory over the injury-riddled McMaster Marauders on Saturday (Jan. 8) at Alumni Hall.
The Mustangs dominated the first quarter, forcing seven McMaster turnovers. Western had 25 first quarter points, holding the Marauders to 14 points. The home side continued its dominance and the score stood 48-17 for the Mustangs at half time of the Ontario University Athletics contest.
The Western Mustangs never looked back and finished the game strong, as the fourth quarter saw the Mustangs once again outscore the Marauders 20-13.
McMaster stats leader Jaklynn Nimec (Binbrook) contributed 14 points and six rebounds in the loss.
McMaster looks to rebound from the loss on Jan. 12 when the Marauders take on the Windsor Lancers at home in the Burridge Gym. Game time is 6 p.m.
