The Mohawk women’s volleyball team stretched its record to 9-2 and pulled into a tie for third place with Fanshawe in the Ontario Colleges Athletics Association West Region on Wednesday (Jan. 12) with a straight sets win over the Lambton Lions in Sarnia.
The scores were 25-14, 25-10, 25-9. Lambton fell to 2-10.
Mountaineers’ coach Sean Pellow said there wasn’t too much newsworthy from the match, but he was able to give everyone lots of time on the floor.
The men’s basketball team also came away from Lambton with a victory, 87-69. Aminu Bello scored 23 points to lead Mohawk. Taylor Dowhaniuk had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Tanner Lane and Jermaine DeCosta scored 12 points apiece for the Mountaineers who were down 11 points with 16 minutes to go before going on a big run.
Even though Lambton’s record is now 4-7, Mohawk head coach Brian Jonker said the Lions are always tough at home, so it was a good win.
The Mountaineers improved to 7-3 and are tied for second place in the West with Niagara and Sheridan, four points back of unbeaten Humber.
