The McMaster Marauders women’s basketball team dropped to 3-8 in the Ontario University Athletics West Division on Saturday after falling to the third place Brock Badgers, 73-54.
Taylor Chiarot (Hamilton) scored a game high 22 points for the Marauders.
The first quarter saw back and forth action between the two teams, and the score was a tight 24-19 in favor of Brock going into the second. Brock extended the lead in the second quarter, thanks in part to Whitney Gorges’ (Welland) three-point shooting. Though the Marauders continued to hustle, the small injury-riddled bench began to tire and the score stood 41-28 for Brock at the half.
The second half read much like the first, with the Marauders putting up a strong fight, and the Badgers slowly pulling increasingly ahead.
In addition to Chiarot, forward Jaklynn Nimec (Binbrook) contributed 15 points. The Marauders dominated the boards, earning 47 rebounds to Brock’s 36. Leading scorers for the Badgers were Gorges, and third-year guard Emily McKay (Toronto), who both tallied 18 points.
The Marauders are off until Friday, Jan. 21, when they take on the fourth place Lakehead Thunderwolves at home in the Burridge Gym at 6 p.m.
