After splitting the first two sets of the match, the McMaster men’s volleyball team held off a later Windsor rally to defeat the visiting Lancers, 3-2 (17-25, 25-15, 25-23, 24-26, 15-8) at the Burridge Gym on Friday night (Jan.14).
Windsor took the first set 25-17, but McMaster responded by taking the next two sets 25-15 and 25-23 in the Ontario University Athletics match. The close third set carried over into the fourth and the Lancers used extra points to take set four 26-24. The set up the deciding fifth set, but the Marauders built a lead late in the set and won it 15-8 to secure the match.
Jori Mantha and MIchael Sjonnesen each contributed a game high 20 points in the win. Mantha’s points came of 18 kills and Sjonnesen had 16 kills. Tyler Santoni had 19 points off 18 kills, and Kevin Stevens contributed 15 points on 14 kills with 21 digs, to also score in double figures for the Marauders. Austin Campion-Smith had 64 assists.
Harrison Oake and Kyle Williamson where the top scorers for the Lancers with 18 and 16 points respectively.
The win moved McMaster into possession of second place in the OUA.
