Glens Falls, NY – The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Adirondack Phantoms 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night. The ‘Dogs scored two third period goals to tie the score 3-3 before Aaron Palushaj and Dustin Boyd scored in the shootout to win the game.
Hamilton opened the game’s scoring at 12:06 of the first period. Alexander Avtsin sent the puck to Ben Maxwell, who rifled a shot over the right shoulder of Adirondack starting goaltender Johan Backlund.
The Phantoms tied the game 1-1 at 5:40. Kevin Marshall sent a long-lead pass to Stefan Legein, who proceeded to snap a shot past the glove of Hamilton starting goaltender Robert Mayer. Adirondack took a 2-1 lead at 11:12. Cullen Eddy blasted a shot towards the net that J.P. Testwuide managed to get his stick on. The puck deflected off Testwuide’s stick and past Mayer. Eric Wellwood scored the Phantoms third goal at 13:10. Mike Testwuide skated down the right side of the ice in Hamilton’s zone before sending the puck to the front of the net. Wellwood whacked the puck past Mayer and into the net.
The ‘Dogs made the game 3-2 at 13:39 of the final frame. Maxwell, who was positioned on the blueline sent the puck to Kyle Klubertanz, who was skating towards the net. Klubertanz wristed a shot over the glove of Backlund and into the top of the net. Hamilton tied the game 3-3 at 15:06. Frederic St. Denis sent the puck to Gabriel Dumont, who skated behind the net with the puck before feeding a pass to Hunter Bishop. Bishop one-timed a shot from the slot that Sailed past Backlund.
Neither team could score in the overtime period, sending the game to a shootout. Aaron Palushaj and Dustin Boyd scored for the ‘Dogs in the shootout while Mayer stopped all four shooters he faced to win the game for Hamilton.
The Bulldogs will return to Copps Coliseum to host their first ever School Day Game on Wednesday, January 26th at 10:30 a.m. when they battle the Manitoba Moose. All regular season Hamilton Bulldogs broadcasts on AM 820 CHAM will begin with a pre-game show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
