The McMaster Marauders women’s volleyball team made it 12 straight on Friday night (Jan. 28) with a straight set defeat over the York Lions. Big-Mac Player of the Game Larissa Puhach (Burlington) had 18 points on five kills for the Marauders.

The Marauders won the first set, 25-18, and aside from a last minute run by the Lions, the Marauders managed to take the set quite tidily. Shannon McRobert (Whitby) came up big with key blocks on several occasions to keep the Marauders in the lead.

The second set was a slightly closer match-up, with the Lions pulling within three points mid-way through. Fortunately, the Marauders pulled through with a 25-19 victory. The Marauders finished off the Lions in the third, winning a quick game 25-15.

Thinesa Sriskandarajah (Scarborough) led the Lions with eight points on seven kills.

The win over York (No.1 in East Division) gives the Marauders a two-game advantage for the best record in Ontario University Athletics. With five games left, the Marauders sit in a strong position to earn home court advantage for the OUA Final Four Championships. The team takes on the Ryerson Rams (1-13) Saturday (Jan. 29) at 6 p.m. in the Burridge Gym.
